No one has the right to treat you with disrespect. Its a reflection of their character, not yours!

I have faced verbal harassment myself at work. During my last year at work, it had become very prominent. The man I was reporting to at that time had a way with words which totally made me feel like I had no talent or like I was good for nothing. But that wasn’t true. In that one year, because of stress, I faced a lot of health concerns, for what? It was because I needed to survive somehow because my husband wasn’t able to find a job.

Its true that I wasn’t qualified as he was, but that didn’t mean I was not talented or that I couldn’t do things better than him. I would say he is and will always be an utter failure as a team leader and team player because he does not respect his subordinates. No matter how qualified you are, if you cannot treat people with respect no matter what their educational or financial background is then, it reflects on who you are a person and you don’t gain respect from anyone. You might think that your getting work done and be arrogant about it, but at the end of the day no one will trust you and want to work with you. So, in the end you become the loser.

I remember how much I used to dread going to office. I used to cry in the car because I didn’t want to endure it, it was such a dark time in my life. I do not wish that on anyone. I know for the fact that I would have quit a long time ago if my husband has a job at that time. But, those were tough times. I learned a lot about people from my time there and I know what kind of people I would like to have in my life. But today, I know when to put a full stop and how to tackle such people.

Today, my husband is facing something similar at his work place. My husband is a very talented man and an asset to any company who employs him. But, people don’t realize that. At his age, he has more experience and expose than anyone else his age in his field. His present boss, harasses him verbally and my husband is going through the mental state I was while I was working. Today, he is forced to continue there because I haven’t found a job yet. He is suffering because he knows he has to take care of me and this is all we have.

We can make a difference in people’s life by just being a considerate about how we treat others. Words have the power to build or destroy a person. It also reflects on you and your character. A workplace can be made enjoyable or even turn into a living hell based on how you turn it into. All of us come to work to make a living, not to do charity. The least an employee/ superior can do is be more tolerant with his staff. There are a lot of posts that people put up on sites like LinkedIn stating a lot of things about how a workplace should be and they get a lot of likes and comments on such posts, but do they actually implement those wonderful posts into action in real life, I don’t think so! Its good to have a fan following and stating things in mere words so that please praise you. Praises don’t make a difference now, do they?

We are all writers and we all have the ability to play with words as and when it seems suitable to us, but do we really care about the other person? No, we don’t. In todays world, we have been taught to stamp and trample the other person below our feet, if it means we can make more money or gain favor from a superior so that we can get a promotion.

Is this the kind of workplace or environment you would like to be in? Think about it.

We spend more than half of our adulthood at workplace. It is suppose to be your first home where all your daily, monthly, yearly and futurely desires are built and is the medium for building the dreams to reality. It is sad to see good talent is being abused like this. People don’t realize that they are planting poison instead of a tree by doing this. This is a global warming issue and needs urgent attention to plant trees and not poison or carbon-di oxide at workplace. There are so many articles, you tube videos, LinkedIn posts for these issues but still it’s spreading like COVID. Sad to here people still have still not learnt their COVID lessons

We cannot change everyone’s behavior. That is totally uncontrollable. Can we control our work place ? Not always. Do you think the world is a better place ? Never . There is not a single workplace which has no discrimination, no verbal harassments or whatsoever. Now let us focus on the controllable ones. Why would someone’s words bring you down? Are you a slave of filthy words from a filthy person ? Never let anyones words control you.
