Someone, somewhere is looking for exactly what you have to offer.

I don’t have to really tell you how hard it is to find a job these days. When you look at job postings, its endless. You keep applying and applying, hoping to receive a call soon. But, that’s not how reality works. Hiring is a long process. That’s what I keep telling myself as I wait patiently for a job interview.

There are a few things that recruiters need to understand when they put up a Job Posting:

  1. A person trying to apply for a role that’s not similar to their profile does not mean that they didn’t like what they did earlier, it’s just that they want to try something new and is ready to learn. Respect that choice.
  2. Always be kind enough to respond to the person who has applied for a job role. If they didn’t get short-listed, let them know. Do not leave them hanging. That shows how considerate an organization is. There are a lot of features in modern emailing systems that can be used to do the same. So instead of being lazy, be proactive.
  3. If you as a recruiter have high expectations about the candidate you are looking out to fill the role, then be ready to pay them what they deserve. People are not commodities that can be under-quoted. So do not insult them. If you can’t pay for experienced people, then post accordingly. You are already aware of what the budgeted amount is for that role, so be wise about it. Everyone looking for a job is wanting to get paid better, not under.
  4. Kindly specify how much you’re willing to pay for the role that you’re posting about so as to not waste the time of the person applying. Every person applying for a job has an expectation in mind. They shouldn’t have to waste time applying for a job that does not meet their salary expectations. This in turn saves you time as you don’t have to go through endless amounts of CV’s. Always remember to value people’s time. As all higher-level management personnel say – ‘Time is money’.
  5. Never try to take advantage of desperate people. Always remember you were desperate once.

Always remember, treat people with respect. Whether they are working for you or not. Time is precious for everyone, even a person who is looking for a job. Unless and until you’re sure of hiring someone soon for a vacancy, do not post it. Everyone is trying to make a living so respect that. Do not hire people because you think they are desperate for a job and it’s the best way to get an experienced personnel at lower cost. This reflects on the company ethics and how they treat their employees. So always remember your being judged the same way as you judge others.
