Being judged materialistically…

We all judge others based on a lot of notions, that are an outcome of the society we live in or on the kind of people we interact with. The most common judgement points being based on what one wears, owns or drives. Correct me if I am wrong!

There is one thing that my dad taught me through his own life examples, you live life on your own terms and that you don’t live to impress others. He has had a humble upbringing and he has worked hard and struggled a lot to reach where he has today. I respect him for all that he has done single handedly. His actions spoke louder than his words ever did.

My dad always believed that we should buy things that are an absolute necessity and not things that were meant to impress others. The classic example is the 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Ex (base model) that I am using today. According to my dad, that car was as good as any other car to take him from point A to B. He bought that car for cash when he could easily afford any luxury car he wanted without taking a loan. But him being him, he always stuck to the basics. He never bothered about how people would judge his financial status based on what he drove or owned. He always says, we don’t need to waste money to impress others or to make people think highly about us. And that was one characteristic of his that everyone admired.

I know for a fact that if I drove that car to a 5 star hotel, the second we reach out to the valet, he will start judging us based on our ride. Even if I wear an original branded watch, he will just assume it’s a fake because, hello! She cant afford a car other than a Lancer, how could she possibly own an original luxury watch, right!

We all need to realize a few realities about life:

  1. Not everyone who has money shows them off
  2. People without actual money do own fancy cars for which they are struggling to pay an EMI, but get respected because people just assume they are rich
  3. Even rich people buy fakes, just that we assume, they are all originals because of the way they portray themselves.

So, never judge a book by its cover, it always deceives.
